What goes into
the lab notebook?
your name and the course and semester go on the cover.
each page should be dated.
you may not tear out pages; if you want a page ingnore, strike it
out with a line.
for
each experiment:
each experiment should be clearly labeled and given a number from 1-10
according to
the order you have done them; write the name of your lab partner.
statement of the purpose of the experiment
(to measure the value of q, or to test the
hypothesis h)
statement of the principle of the measurement
sketch of apparatus
notes from proceedure taken while setting up and calibration
include any calibration data and analysis to
determine calibration constants and there errors.
notes from aquiring data
include all raw data. any data that is
determined to be unusable should be so labeled with
a reason given. good data should also be
labled.
for
each experiment that is not formally written up:
calculations and plots needed to complete the experiment (achieve the
goal
stated in the purpose)
calculations leading to determination of error on q or test of h
boxed final result.
